SMEC in Indonesia operates under the legal entities SMEC International Pty Ltd and PT SMEC Denka Indonesia. Personnel from both companies occupy the same office space and cooperate in a seamless manner on projects within Indonesia providing SMEC international expertise in cooperation with Indonesian capability. SMEC has undertaken projects in Indonesia since the 1970s in a range of sectors as follows:

PT SMEC Denka Indonesia is a limited liability company and was founded as PT. Denka Krisna Cendikia in 1992. The firm has been prominent in the provision of consulting engineering services and has been actively involved in government and private projects throughout Indonesia.
PT SMEC Denka Indonesia provides services throughout the lifecycle of projects including: Planning Studies, Pre-Feasibility Studies and Feasibility Studies, Engineering Design, Construction Supervision, Project Management, Capacity Building/Institutional Strengthening, Social Development and Public Private Partnerships Advisory services.
PT SMEC Denka Indonesia currently has 300+ Indonesian staff including Project Managers, Civil Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Geologists, Environmental Scientists, GIS Engineers, CAD Operators and various administrative staff.
An example of a project undertaken by SMEC is the Indonesia Infrastructure Initiative. This seven year, AU$153 million project is managed by SMEC and funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The objective of the project is to improve water supply, sanitation and transport infrastructure throughout Indonesia.
